I honestly think the biggest problem with 'Day of the Doctor' was that the War Doctor was..too Doctor like for someone who apparently did something so horrible..which was exactly what 9, 10 and 11 bragged about.

Heck, 12 acted less Doctor like than he ever did.

I thought Day of the Doctor was a huge waste of talent and time. It's two odd hours of my life I won't get back.

Just because he wouldn't, or couldn't, be called The Doctor doesn't mean he will stop being... well, himself. It's not like he was a different character entirely by becoming the Other Doctor.

He spent centuries in the Time War, he's not gonna be happy go lucky. Entire point of the War Doctor was to abandon his promise and fight

I'm just saying he was built up like he committed the biggest accroticy..and we already know what it is because 9, 10 and 11 wont shut up bout it.

It's not like he was cracking jokes or being goofy throughout the special. He was world weary and didn't have the energy of ten and eleven, but he was still the same guy after fighting for so long. Also, he hadn't even committed his greatest sin by that point. The Day of the Doctor was about THAT day and what the Doctor thought he had done but won't remember until eleven goes back because of time travel.

I just think the War Doctor just wasn't needed. There was nothing stopping Paul Mcgann playing a older, war battered 8th Doctor.

The Eighth Doctor's story was already being told in audio dramas and novels and Christopher Eccleston declined to reprise his role in the 50th anniversary special, so it was necessary to create the War Doctor.

No, nothing stopped them from using 8, his story was leading to him being darker, they even hinted strongly at the Time War

Except Steven Moffat himself, and his choice not to use Eight. I thought Eight could've been the one but I was satisfied with what we got anyway. I really liked the the idea of the Doctor hating a part of himself (even if Ten and Eleven's dread doesn't last very long and they don't hate him all that much in the special itself) and trying to erase him, and then discovering he didn't actually destroy the Time Lords. It was a very interesting concept to me.
